A blog about a blog about a book!

Following the enormous success of Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan’s controversial blog, ‘The Compulsive Confessor’ (http://thecompulsiveconfessor.blogspot.com/), You Are Here is Meenakshi’s sizzling debut novel. Sassy, wise and audaciously candid, she introduces a bold and irresistible new voice.

To celebrate the launch of this saucy read, we're offering a sneak preview of You Are Here exclusively to members of the new Penguin Club. Register for free here to receive the first chapter of You Are Here by email soon.

In a compulsive move Meenakshi is confessor turned cohort! In the weeks leading up to the launch of You Are Here she will choose your Deepest Darkest Confessions and post them anonymously here: http://deepestdarkestconfessions.blogspot.com/. Think sex, drugs and rock and roll. You could even have a problem or secret you need some advice on; whatever your confession Meenakshi wants to hear it, and she’ll offer her pearls of wisdom on the subject. Email your posts to admin@in.penguingroup.com. The five best entries will then win a signed copy of You Are Here, and the world will hear their confession, anonymously of course!

Hi, looking forward to some insights to the publishing world. What does Penguin have to offer for aspiring short story writers? I had heard about First Proof. Is it still around? Who does one send stories to and generally why don't we see more short stories from Indian authors.

Short stories are generally harder to sell, and almost impossible when it comes to selling foreign language rights. It's easier when it's an established author or when the stories are linked or connected (a common theme or characters). Though Indian publishers have brought out a few rather good short story collections over the past couple of years. Penguin has recently published Vijay Dan Detha's New Life and Kwai-yun Li's The Last Dragon Dance, and there's another collection of stories by Jahnavi Barua coming out later this year.

Our annual anthology of new writing, First Proof, is very much around. Volume 4 will be published towards the end of the year. Fiction may be submitted to avanija.sundaramurti@in.penguingroup.com and diyak@in.penguingroup.com, and non-fiction submissions may be sent to ranjana.sengupta@in.penguingroup.com

I registered on the site, (had done so before, but forgot password), and did not receive an email confirming my registration. Is it as it should be? How about confirming through an email, and also a forgot password link? If a forgot password link exists, I would like to sincerely apologize for my error!

You won't have got an email confirmation, but if you have forgotten your password please email admin@in.penguingroup.com and we can remind you of it.

A forgotten password link is something we are looking to add on the site. Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the email with the link to the first chapter. But who were you trying to fool, with the promise of 'sneak preview' and 'for your eyes only'? I forwarded the email to another email id (per the link at the bottom of the newsletter to forward to a friend), and I could easily click and read the same thing from that mail! So I can go ahead and post that entire chapter on my blog and tell everyone I received it via email, or post it as a comment on the compulsive confessor itself?
